an African American man and a former first lady.
The two nominees for the 2008 presidential race were Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
For the first time ever, an African American and a woman were a possibility as a presidential candidate. Regardless of who won the nomination it would be a historic moment as neither a black man or a woman had been a presidential candidate for a major party. Barack Obama was an Illinois congressmen and rose to prominence quickly with his ability to reach many groups. Hillary Clinton is the wife of Bill Clinton, the 42nd president.
