The settlers of Plymouth were living in a new completely unknown land. This creates many aspects of suffering. The settlers who came from the more familiar England, had no idea had to hunt and fish in the new lands or what crops were appropriate for the climate in New England. They were also struck with a very harsh winter, for which the settlers had no preparation for resulting in the deaths of many. Eventually, they managed to survive through the help of certain native tribes and slow adjustment to the New England environment.
