Increased activity of merocrine sweat glands
Merocrine refers to the exocrine glands (or cells) whose secretions are excreted outside of the cell from the secretory cells, then into an epithelial-walled duct(s), and finally onto the surface of the body. Merocrine secretions from the sweat glands are specifically called eccrine.
Sweat glands are structures of the skin that produce sweat in order to cool the body upon evaporation of the sweat. As a person grows older, his sweat glands become less active. This could impair perspiration or sweating, and increases the risks of overheating in the elderly.
