To solve this problem, we use the z statistic.  The z formula is:

z = (x – u) / s

where x is lakers score = 101.7, u is Celtics score = 99.2, s is standard dev = 10.5

z = (101.7 – 99.2) / 10.5 = 0.24

 

using the normal distribution table at z = 0.24, the P value is:

P (z = 0.24) = 0.5984 = 59.84%
