The slave laws which were passed by US congress on 18th September 1850 and that was part of compromise of 1850 between the Northern Free-Soilers and southern Slave holding states. The act was one of the most controversial element of the compromise of 1850. As per the act all the escaped slaves were to be returned to their masters and the people had to help the officials, It was nicknamed Bloodhound law by the abolitionists as the dogs were used to find the runaway slaves. It favoured the south because they wanted to maintain slavery in their states and the act helped them in doing so.
