Solve the equation for x.

4x + 2 = 2(x + 3) + 2x – 4

4x + 2 = 2(x + 3) + 2x – 4 

Start by distributing...

4x + 2 = 2x + 6 + 2x - 4 

Combine like terms....

4x + 2 =  4x  2 

Subtract -4x from both sides...

2 = 2 

Since 2 is equal to 2 the answer to this equation is all real numbers 
OK let's do it like this. So what we do is we switch X for different numbers so let's try X=1 which equals 6=6 which means X=1 is true.
