What is the tone of this passage?

Gloria was looking forward to school starting in the fall. Most of her friends wanted the summer to go on forever, but she liked starting new classes and meeting new people. Sure, she would miss the freedom, and she may not like all her classes, but all in all she was happy to be going back.

She is excited but afraid at the same time.
So the tone is something like looking forward to what is ahead of her.

The tone is that of anxiety. One could be anxious to do something to finally find what it is about with its good and bad parts.May be Gloria was looking forward to a new beginning.However, starting a new school year has its pros and cons , which  make it more exciting.There is eagerness when one feels anxious , there is desire but also some tension.
