Harriet Jacobs and Frederick Douglass both managed to escape slavery. Jacobs was hesitant to write or publish her account, however Douglass was not and published several versions of her story.
The two Harriets were termed abolitionists because they wanted slavery to be abolished. Harriet Beecher Stowe and Harriet Tubman were two of the most well-known abolitionists.
Frederick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs were both able to free themselves from slavery. Jacobs was afraid to publish or write her tale, but Douglass was not, and her story was published in many variations.
