List the following rational numbers in order from least to greatest. Include inequality symbols.

Which student completed the problem correctly?



Student A: 0.27 < -7 halves < -2.7 < -2.09


Student B: -7 halves < -2.09 > -2.7 > 0.27


Student C: -7 halves < -2.7 < -2.09 < 0.27

Okay. -7 halves is equivalent to -3.5. 7 * -0.5 is -3.5. In this case, 0.27 > -2.09 > -2.7 > -7 halves. -2.09 > -2.7, because that number is closer to 0 and goes more towards the right. The farther left a number is on a number line, the smaller it is the the farther right the number is on a number line, the larger it is. Student D completed the problem correctly.
