Some of the groups who decided to settle in New England to seek religious freedom were the Puritans and Separatists. Puritans wanted to reform the Church of England who followed the rituals and practices of the Roman Catholic Church. Separatists wanted to build their church to follow their beliefs. For the first time, the Pilgrims (Separatists) reached to New World by Mayflower ship which carried about 102 passengers and formed Plymouth colony. Massachusetts colony was set up for the Puritans who left England in more than numbers of 15,000.
