The Catalan Atlas, Document C, features Mansa Musa so prominently to D. emphasize the wealth, power, and importance of Mansa Musa. Mansa Musa is known to be a very wealthy ruler of the kingdom of Mali, located in Western Africa. It can be seen that the map was unlike ordinary maps which simply showed the layout and position of places. The map focused on showing Mansa Musa giving gold to a trader.
