  A researcher's membership on an advisory board with an organization sponsoring research can create a COI because the board may vote in favorite of the person they want to help more. COI in this instance stands for conflict of interest. When doing research and looking for sponsoring help if there are many organizations wanting from the same sponsor but they vote in favor of who they often help, it could cause a conflict of interest.
