Chemicals like HCL should be immediately washed off. HCL is caustic to the skin and will cause the skin to dissolve. The student should rinse the affected area under warm running tap water.
 
Concentrated HCl is a highly acidic chemical which can be corrosive to skin and eyes and they may attack and destroy living tissues. 

To prevent the occurrence of this situation, students should wear protective gloves and handle concentrated acids/alkalis with tongs.
