The instructor has seen that there is a lack of desire from the participants.
He wants to motivate and create enthusiasm within the group but is unsure how to or where to start. The quiz becomes an ice breaker, as of course everyone likes competition but it will give him an idea or where every one is in terms of their general understanding. The quiz will help create a more enjoyable atmosphere and in turn enable the participants to get more involved. From there he can formulate ideas of what direction to take in the next lesson but also to see which individuals will need more attention and assistance.
