It refered that two victories for black Americans: a victory at home and a victory abroad
Victory in World War II and victory for equal rights for black Americans at home.
- V stands for Victory. The first victory for which America was fighting in World War II was for victory over tyranny and aggression. The African American community in the US added a second V for victory for their own rights within their own country. The campaign first appeared in the African-American newspaper, Pittsburgh Courier, in February, 1942.
