Reynaldo is obligated to follow polonius's instructions because Polonius is Reynaldo's social superior. Polonius sent Reynaldo to Paris so he could spy on Laertes for him.Clearly he believes that Laertes cannot be trusted. And this seems fair as certainly Polonius cannot be trusted.
