The food chain represents the flow of energy and matter between organisms. The food chain begins with autotrophs or plants which can synthesize the food on their own. These plants are eaten by the herbivores which get eaten by the carnivores.

When these are arranged in the categories then the autotrophs is positioned at the bottom of the pyramid whereas the top carnivore at the top.

If we will go down the category of the food chain then autotrophs will come at the bottom and thus autotrophs or plants is the correct answer.
