Following are the properties of compounds:
- The properties of the elements in a compound are always fixed.
- The elements/ components of a compound do not retain their individual properties.
Compound is a composition of two or more elements that are chemically bonded together in a specific ratio. The property of compound is not same as property of its ingredients. For example, water is a compound form by addition of two gases hydrogen and oxygen in the ratio 2:1. The two gas element when combined form a liquid. The bond form by transfer to two electron of hydrogen atom to the oxygen atom which has a vacancy of two atom in last shell. Thus the hydrogen becomes the donor and the oxygen becomes the acceptor. The formed compound have completely different properties than the actual elements.
