At a basketball game, a vender sold a combined total of 161 sodas and hot dogs. The number of sodas sold was 43 more than the number of hot dogs sold. Find the number of sodas sold and the number of hot dogs sold.
Let s be the soda and h be the hot dogs ,there are two equations here. By the problem s+h =161 s= h+43 ∴2h+43=161 so h=161-43/2 =59 so he sold 59 hot dogs and 59+43 =102 sodas.
