Before 1942, Chinese military force fought against Japan in Southeastern Asia with British soldiers. But within the borders of China, only Chinese military force, nobody else. Until 1945, when the war was heading to the end, former Soviet Union troops participated in wiping Japanese from the northeast of China. We should not forget that a big number of American volunteer pilots joined the efforts of Chinese government in protecting the flight routes between Chongqing, temporary capital of China, and international supplies. Most of them were cargo flight pilots. Chinese people called them "Flying Tiger".

Island hopping was a military strategy used by Allied forces in the Pacific War against the Axis powers, i.e. Japan during WWII., Which mainly involved conquering an island and setting up a military base there which was turned into a launching point to attack.
After the atomic bomb was developed, the final strategy to defeat Japan to drop a bomb in its cities, therefore the bomb was dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6, 1945, to bring a swift end to the war.
Therefore, island hopping and dropping the atomic bomb were the strategies used by allied force in Japan.
