Democratic National Convention in Chicago, tens of thousands of Vietnam War protesters battle police in the streets, while theDemocratic Party falls apart over an internal disagreement concerning its stance on Vietnam.

The correct answer is B). Anti-war Democrats had no candidate, so they protested at the convention

The group of antiwar activists that arrive in Chicago to participate in the event considered the convention as a farce. The party´s leader, President Lyndon B. Johnson, previously affirmed that he would not seek another presidential term. He wanted to focus on a possible solution to the War in Vietnam. So he opened the door to Vice President Hubert Humphrey. He did not compete in the primaries.

As anti-war Democrats had no candidate, they protested at the convention with chants like “Dump the Hump!”. Among the protesters, there were civilians, black militants, anarchists, communists, and hippies.
