Phillips's hostility to be an example of “transference”.

Transference means when during a psychoanalytical therapy the inner feelings and emotions of the patients from a long gone past usually childhood or about their parents starts redirecting and often to the therapist who is treating the patient. This usually happens during the stage of analysis which is called transference neurosis.
