Brigham Young’s teaching was that we can learn truth from various sources, both within and outside the church. As regards "Mormonism" and sources of truth, Brigham taught the following:
1. Mormonism takes account of all truth
2. Mormonism accepts every principle that pertains to life and salvation.
3. There is no truth apart from what belongs to the Gospel.
4. Truth and sound doctrine possessed by the sectarian world belongs to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
