European emigrants in the late nineteenth century were mostly landless laborers that were seeking new starts in North and South America. These people were willing to work cheap and took jobs away from laborers that were already present in the new world that these emigrants were about to embark to. Their willingness to work and yearning to help their families was apparent when they took jobs for little pay.
