There are absence of bony structures in plants which are abundant in animals.

The cells that act as the main supporting cells of the plants are:

  • Collenchyma
  • parenchyma
  • sclerenchyma and
  • xylem.

The Collenchyma are made up of elongated cells whose cell walls are made up of high deposits of cellulose and pectin.

The support given to the plant from the collenchyma cells is as a result of the cellulose and pectin found in the cell wall.
