The major developments that took place between North Africa from 800 BC to 700 AD was that Carthaginian Empire was formed in North Africa followed by Rome extending its rule over this area and spreading of Islam in the later stages.

During the period of 600 BC, Carthage became a major trading entity and had a lot of power in Mediterranean. It had mostly all the trades of tropical Africa under it. The rise of Carthaginian Empire also effected the grown of Berber Kingdoms. The Carthaginians had long time rivalry with Greeks and Romans. They fought three wars with the Romans and were badly defeated in first two wars. Still they made and effort to fight the third war and in that war they were badly destroyed and their empire was ended and the new kingdom was established as Roman Empire. The Romans became the major supplier of agricultural goods in Africa. They used to supply Wheat, Olive Oil and olives through exorbitant taxation. The Arab invasion in Africa begin in 642 CE when Amr Ibn al-as who was the governor of Egypt invaded Cyrenaica and after successful invasion, he advanced as far as Tripoli by 645 CE. In 681 CE, Uqba was commander in chief of Arab forces and he advanced to Atlantic Ocean in the west and Draa river was penetrated by his army. All these events resulted in Spreading of Islam in North Africa during 700 AD.
