The 14th Amendment to the US Constitution brings, among others, the Citizenship Clause, which overruled a previous Supreme Court's decision on Dred Scott's case that said black people weren't citizens and could not become citizens of the United States.
Also, it brought determined rules of representation in the House of Representatives which added three-fifths of each state's slave population to its free population.
And last, the Equal Protection Clause was extended and and prohibited any state of denying equal protection of the law to any person. This clause was basis for the Brown v. Board of Education case which helped end racial segregation in public schools.
