Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana and Nigeria all gained their independence from their European colonizers after 1945.
Most of Africa was colonized by European countries in the late 19th century with most of them only regaining their independence after the mid 20th century.
Ghana led the way when it gained independence from Britain in 1957 under Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and three years later in 1960, Nigeria followed suit when they achieved independence again from Britain and under the leadership of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Sir Tafawa Balewa.
Three months before Nigeria gained independence, the Republic of Congo was granted independence from the Belgians under Joseph Kasa-Vubu and Patrice Lumumba.
