The media ads try to appeal to the human psychological need by all of the above! We're all pressured to having to be a "normal" person who acts a particular way and are shunned by being "social unacceptable". We're also a society who need instant gratification therefore, anything that is a "quick fix" will appeal to the masses. Of course, being attractive in the media is the main thing to the point that fake ads use 99% photoshopped images to fit the "social standards" that are typically not obtainable to most people.
