Answer:

1. Sued for his freedom but lost --- Dred Scott

2. Effectively repealed the Missouri Compromise  --- Roger B. Taney

3. Black freedman living in New York, captured and sold in the New Orleans slave market --- Solomon Northup

Explanation:

1- Dred Scott was an Afro-American slave who failed to get his freedom in the infamous case decided by the Supreme Court in 1857.

2- Roger B. Taney was the Chief Justice of the United States from March 28, 1836 to October 12, 1864, the date of his death.  Taney supported slavery and was opposed to giving rights to blacks. Under his leadership, the Supreme Court declared that the Missouri Compromise of 1820 was unconstitutional, thus allowing slavery in all United States territories.

3- Solomon Northup was a free-born African-American abolitionist writer in the state of New York, United States. Farmer and violinist, Northup was a landowner in Hebron, New York. In 1841 he was abducted by slave traders in the state of Louisiana for twelve years without being able to contact his family. After much cost, Northup regained his freedom after meeting a Canadian contractor named Samuel Bass, who sent letters to Solomon acquaintances to intercede for him. In January 1853, he was formally released.
