As a result of the Watergate scandal, a cleansing of the nation’s political process ensued. The biggest result of the Watergate Scandal was the resignation of Richard Nixon, followed by Gerald Ford becoming president of the United States. The Watergate Scandal resulted in 69 government officials being charged and 48 being found guilty. There was also a loss of seats for Republicans in the House and Senate in the 1974 Elections and trust in the Executive Branch of the government lessened.
