Historians have always disagreed about why the USA experienced civil war, but four reasons they agree about are the conflicting opinions on Lincoln's election because of his views on slavery, the issue of slavery itself, economics, and state rights. Enslaving the majority of their labor force greatly contributed to the white man's economy in the south. Having an abolitionist elected as president threatened the southerner's way of life as well as their individual state's rights to make and enforce laws.
