This research cannot be classified as a true experiment because the researcher does not control the assignment of participants to groups and therefore has a nonequivalent groups design.

There are three standards for an experiment to meet its criteria which are:

1) At least one experimental and control group

2) Researcher-manipulated variable

3) Random assignment
