The AH protocol
AH, the protocol provides message authentication only. AH (Authentication Header) as compared to ESP protocol which gives actual encryption to the data being sent provides data integrity, an optional replay protection service, and data origin authentication.
A message digest is used to ensure data integrity by generating an algorithm such as HMAC-SHA
