Well, my answer is no. They don't specifically work straight away. Here's an example:
You may not know about it but people have been boycotting nestle since they caused babies deaths by writing labels in the wrong language. Many people stopped buying their products, nothing really happened about it. I think they stopped doing the labels wrong though.
