These areas are highly dominated by poor people and most of them are forced to live in the street. There is no law enforcement in these communities. Most of the activities are being run by drug lord and mostly involves in a battle for dominance.
Slum in general refers to informal settlements that are within urban areas. It is highly populated areas and mostly characterized by substandard housing. Most of the slums don’t have reliable electricity, consistent supply of water and law enforcement.
Between 18th and 20th century, slums were very common in the Europe and the United States. Today, slums are present extensively in urban areas in developing and undeveloped countries. Slum expands because of various reasons, which could be political and social, demographic and economic. Some of the examples of socio-economic factors include poverty, poor planning, social conflicts and many more.
