There are several points of view that Bhutto establishes in those paragraphs. First of all, she believes that democracy is an ideal which has existed for a long time now and which will continue to exist in the future as well. This opinion is reflected in this quote: "The idea of democracy has survived tyranny over centuries since it was first practiced in ancient Greece.”

Additionally, she believes that intelligent individuals are more important for the success of a particular country than its military. She believes it is those people who ultimately bring wealth to a country, exemplified in these thoughts: "Power began to shift from the might of armies to the strength of the intellect” and that “military strength … was no longer critical in defining the greatness of a nation.”
