I believe the answer is: The Norwegians hide the brooms on Christmas Eve.
In the past, norwegian people believed that the witches are evil spirits that would come up on Christmas eve, stole a broom from a household and ride it to terrorize the city. So, they make it as a tradition to hide their brooms on christmas eve to prevent it.
