The procedure of sexual reproduction includes two parents, each donating one gamete. Gametes are created by a process called meiosis, which begins by the duplication of the chromosomes, trailed by two rounds of cell splits and halving of the chromosome number. Gametes gets the half of the chromosome number of other adult cells of an organism. A main feature of meiosis is the swapping of chromosome pieces which happens in the first part of this procedure, called recombination.
