The correct answer is Option B) Laws were not in place to protect workers

During the 18th Century, the Industrial Revolution took place in the United Kingdom and gave rise to the mass-producing manufactering sector.

This was the first time in the history of man-kind where goods were being produced on a mass scale with the help of machines.

New jobs were created and thousands of people moved from rural areas to cities such as Sheffield, Nottingham etc.

At the time, the rules and laws were weak. The UK government had never passed any laws regarding employee welfare or safety conditions. Business people took adventage of this situation and tried to invest as little as possible in terms of safety and factory conditions in order to maximize profits.

Factories were often crowded, dirty, with little air or light. There were very few breaks in between work and the lodging was cramped.

It was a few decades before the government took actions to make sure that factory workers would get better working conditions.
