Lines and shapes are part of the visual elements. Other elements are: colour, pattern, tone, form and texture. These elements serve as the construction blocks which artists used to generate artistic works. Lines are used to form drawings and when lines are made to cross one another they form shapes. An artist can create any mood or feeling he desires in his composition by manipulating the shapes to form the desired texture and form. Also, depending on the type of mood the artist want to create, different types of lines convey different expressive meaning.
Lines and shapes help in visualizing and constructing blocks of the work for the artistic compositions. These are drawn differently to derive different patterns.
Lines could be manipulated by crossing them in order to make any shape out of it. The artist may draw any line and shape in the desired texture and form to create a mood or feeling.
- When lines are drawn with the feeling of stress they seem heavy and jagged.
- When lines are made out calmly they turn out to be soft and light.
- The line, which is made with the scary feeling might be small.
