The type of respiration the muscle cells use is anaerobic respiration.
Anaerobic respiration occurs in the absence of oxygen.
The muscle functions during activities such as running and the cells need
energy which is why anaerobic respiration is done. This helps to provide the
cells of the runner's legs with less amount of energy although in a faster
manner than aerobic respiration.
The anaerobic respiration which takes place in muscle cells provide lactic
acid as its by-product.
