During photosynthesis, in most plants, stomata on a leaf must be open during the calvin-benson cycle so the carbon dioxide can enter the interior of the leaf and diffuses into the stroma of the chloroplast to synthesized sugar. These reactions are called light-independent reactions because they are not directly driven by light.
