A factory produces 1000 bottles of pasta sauce in a day. Fifty bottles are selected at random to determine whether they weigh the correct amount. The factory rejects bottles that are over or under the correct weight.

One bottle is underweight, 46 bottles are the correct weight, and 3 bottles are overweight.

Based on this random sample, approximately how many bottles will the factory reject from the day's production?

4
20
60
80

Respuesta :

The company produces 1000 bottles in a day and only 50 bottles are sampled therefore 20 samples can be obtained from 1000 bottles.
In each sample (50 bottles) 1 bottle is under weight, 3 bottles are overweight and 46 bottles have the correct weight.
Noting the company rejects the bottles that are either underweight or overweight then in a given sample (50 bottles) the company rejects 4 bottles ( 1 underweight and 3 overweight).
Therefore, for a day 1000 bottles equivalent to 20 samples , the number of bottles rejected will be 20 × 4 = 80 bottles. so in a given day the company rejects 80 bottles.
