The term Phoenicia was the ancient Greek term used in export of any region. It mainly referred to Canaanite port. The notable cities are Tyre, Sidon, Carthage. Each state was an independent unit. Phoenician alphabets is used for writing Phoenician. This was the commonly used writing system expanded by Phoenician merchants. It evolved across the Mediterranean and there it was an assimilated by different other culture like a Roman alphabet that is used by the western civilization at present. Greeks associated purple colour of the dates and dyes to the merchants who traded these products. The Phoenician alphabet was a strict and consistent form. It adopted simplified linear characters. Greeks have adopted a majority of these letters but changed few vowels that were very significant in the language. This gives rise to the first true alphabet.
