How are convection currents in the mantle (geosphere) and in the oceans (hydrosphere) similar ? How are they different ? I NEED AN ANSWER ASAP!!

Respuesta :

Hello,

Convection currents in the mantle drive plate tectonics. Convection is the reason for ocean currents. Ocean currents result from two processes - the action of wind on the surface of the water, and from variation in water temperature that causes movement.

Both the mantle and ocean experience the heat transfer due to bulk movement of molecules within fluids such as gases and liquids, including molten rock; this is called, again, convection.

Answer:

Convection currents in  magma drive plate tectonics. Heat generated from the radioactive decay of elements deep in the interior of the Earth makes magma in the asthenosphere. The asthenosphere is part of the mantle, the plates are giant rafts that slowly move. Their movement is driven by convection currents in the mantle. The mantle is much hotter than the crust and its rock is molten.
