The Prophet Jeremiah and the authors of the Books of
Kings blamed exile to Babylon on Israel's collective failure to honor their
covenant commitments. Jeremiah criticized his generation for their wayward
behavior, and then watched them fall at the hands of their enemies - Assyria,
Egypt, and Babylonia.
