Francois baked just enough cookiesto fill all the orders at his bakery. While the cookies were cooling, a kitchen assistant knocked over a cooling rack and spilled 12 percent of the cookies onto the floor. Francois had to bake 36 more cookies to replace them.
How many cookies were ordered in total? And please explain.

For this reason Francois had to bake 36 more cookies to fulfill his order. This shows that 12% of the cookies is equal to 36 cookies. The for finding the full order we have to find the number of cookies that comes in 100%. Now coming to the mathematical part of this problem.
12% of cookies is same as = 36 cookies
Then
100% of cookies is the same as = (36/12) * 100
                                                     = 3 * 100
                                                     = 300
So 300 cookies were ordered in total.
