I believe that the US should have been so heavily involved in Latin American as it was because it helped establish America as a world power. In addition to deeming that anything on it's hemisphere is strictly off limits to the imperialists, the US also ensured safety from the threat of said imperialists. Knowing that the US was becoming a force to be reckoned with, the other countries knew to back down then to pick a fight with them. Another reason why I believe that the US's involvement in Latin America was a good thing was because it gave the US power to expand their economic potential via the construction of canals and shipments to and from Latin America. Had America not firmly established a hold on its southern neighbor, the US would not enjoy as much profit as it had back then.
