when a decimal is written in word form, what indicates that the equivalent form is a mixed number and not a fraction? Explain.

Respuesta :

If the decimal is 1.25, the mixed number equivalent would be 1 1/4. If it has a number before the decimal ( 1 in this case), it shows there is a whole number.

Also, 1.25 in word form is “One and twenty-five hundredths”. The “and” shows that there’s a whole number.

hope that was clear, if not, I can explain it differently :)

⇒If the Decimal is in fraction form , it will be in the form of

 [tex] \frac{p}{q}[/tex]

⇒And if , it is a Mixed number , it will be in the form of

    [tex] a\frac{p}{q}[/tex]

Where a, is any Integer and [tex] \frac{p}{q}[/tex] is a fraction.

⇒Now, We have to write

2.15 in decimals. It will be written as

Two Point one five.

⇒Here, the word "Two" has been used before Point(.) , So, if write Two in numerals it is an Integer =2.So,this Decimal can be written in terms of Mixed Number.

⇒Now, Apart from any of the Digit, from 1 to 9 , if the digit used before decimal is only Zero, then it will be a fraction number only, Not a mixed Fraction number. For example =0.15--------Fraction Number.

⇒So, When a decimal is written in word form,if we write , Zero Point one........, here we have used Point after the word Zero, there is only single word Zero used only before the word Point, so this decimal will be a fraction  number, Otherwise if the digit used is from 1 to 9, before the word point, or combination of digits before the word point, then the decimal will be a Mixed Fraction Number.
